Arthur King, 84, died at his Jamestown home surrounded by his family Thursday, April 27, 2023.
Born in Lackawanna, N.Y., he was the son of Leland and Honor Willow King.
Art is survived by Paula, his wife of 54 years, sons David (Gretchen) of Exeter; Jonathan (Lisa) of Exeter; Al of Ridgeville, S.C.; Michael of Mobile, Ala.; daughters Paula Richardson (Keister) of Danville, Va.; and Kathryn Vimislik (Michael) of Seabeck, Wash.
Art was predeceased by his son James.
He also is survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a brother Wayne King of Avoca, N.Y. and a sister Sandra Curtis of Hammondsport, N.Y.
A brother Ernest of Oregon predeceased him.
He also had several nieces and nephews.
Art proudly served in the armed services for 27 years, retiring in 1994. He worked at Electric Boat as a material controller for 20 years. He was a past member of the Quonset Davisville Yacht Club; he loved boating, fishing, being out on the water and living in Jamestown.
Art was an avid woodworker and he enjoyed creating clocks, bowls, ice cream scoops and pens to give to family members and friends.
In the neighborhood, he was known as the “applesauce man.” When apple season came around, he could be found in the kitchen making buckets of crock pot applesauce to deliver to family, friends and neighboring children.
There will be a celebration of his life at a later date.
